Bioheat fuel is a blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil (ULSHO) and biofuel.
ULSHO contains 15 parts per million (ppm) or less of sulfur (compared to 5,000 ppm for standard petroleum-based fuel), which reduces sulfur dioxide emissions, known to cause acid rain and respiratory ailments.

Biofuel is a U.S.-made product that supports American farmers and energy producers. And the oils and fats used as feedstock are natural byproducts of food production — so no food is sacrificed to make biofuel.
We’re all concerned about the harmful effects of climate change on our planet. Bioheat fuel is an essential tool in combatting greenhouse gas emissions.
It reduces emissions by at least 50% compared to petroleum. Indeed, the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) has found that a blend of 2% biofuel in heating oil leads to greenhouse gas emissions that are equivalent to those of natural gas. However, Tasha Fuels & Propane uses a higher blend of biofuel, so our heating oil has even fewer emissions than natural gas!
You can use Bioheat fuel in oil-fired heating equipment without modification. And you’ll be happy you did! It has the highest Btu content of any alternative fuel out there, meaning that you can heat your home with less oil. Bioheat fuel producers are on pace to achieve a 50% blend of ULSHO and biofuel. Widespread use of the B50 blend will eliminate 4.29 million metric tons of carbon from the air!
And researchers are making fantastic strides in developing cleaner and more efficient processes for producing biofuel. This includes advances for converting otherwise unused biomass — like cornstalks or wheat straw — into usable biofuel.
